Facebook Open Graph Conflicts in WordPress

posted in: Blogging | 0

When I set-up this blog I added quite a few plugins.  One of these plugins was JetPack which has a “publicize” feature.  Prior to adding this I added a plugin called Facebook Auto Publish and another one called WP Facebook Open Graph protocol.

When I added JetPack I disabled Facebook Auto Publish, but I left WP Facebook Open Graph protocol active.  After a bit of investigation it appears that by having this active as well as having JetPack active, I had double Open Graph tags on my posts.  This meant that when JetPack tried to publish my posts on Facebook, Facebook could not understand the Open Graph tags and rejected the post.

I believe I have now fixed this issue, and this should be the first post to appear in my Facebook feed.

Update: 6 months after publishing

Although I knew this was not the first post in my feed, I hadn’t managed to find a decent solution until now.  I can confirm that I have now got my Facebook posts working and I will be writing a new post about how I achieved this.

Update: 1 hour after previous update

The new post is now available at http://alphageek.com.au/2015/05/03/automatically-sharing-wordpress-posts-to-facebook/
